LOCAL PA ANNOUNCER GETS MTV GIG

Kevin Kelleher, a local public address announcer for Florida Atlantic University and Boca Raton High School in Palm Beach County, recently taped an episode of the MTV show ‘Road Rules’ here in South Florida.

  Road Rules, in it’s ninth season, places 6 people together in a fully outfitted RV and sends them across America...This year the “Maximum Velocity Tour” features 09 cast members: Laterrian, Holly, Theo, Masada, James, and Kathryn…their adventures include skydiving, monster truck racing, ‘parachute plane’ flying and similiar “skill” type encounters, while the MTV people follow them, documentary style and chronicle their day-to-day activities…

  Kelleher, a public address announcer in Boca Raton, Florida and also known as “The Voice of Boca Raton Sports”, was approached by MTV executives back in April of this year.  “The Sports Information Director at Florida Atlantic University, Katrina McCormick, called me and  said she gave my name to somebody who was looking for an announcer,” said Kevin, age 49. “When she told me it was MTV, I went into shock!” The MTV crew was coming to the university and would use the schools’ Olympic size pool to tape an episode featuring the Road Rules cast pitted against the “Playboy Models Extreme Dream Team” in a synchronized swimming contest.  Kevin Lee, executive producer of the show, called Kelleher and offered him the opportunity to announce the ‘technical merit’ and ‘artistic impression’ scores to the expected capacity crowd gathered for the event on campus.  He (Kelleher) was also asked to introduce the Road Rules cast and the Playboy Models as they entered the swimming complex.  Kevin kidded, “I played hard to get at first, and told Lee that my agent would have to approve everything!”  The show was taped before an enthusiastic crowd of 2000 people and is listed as- “Episode 8- Love, Lust and Lies”…the night before the competition the Road Rules team has trouble with team morale because of problems between cast members Laterrian and Kathryn, explains the MTV episode “capsule”.

Kevin Kelleher's PA Announcer Group on Yahoo! recently celebrated it's third anniversary with close to 400 members on board.  Kevin no longer actively announces but keeps busy with the Group, this website and his internet radio music streams.
