Veteran Durham Bulls public address announcer Bill Law has announced that he will retire, effective at the end of the 2006 season.

Why is the public address announcer at the football stadium allowed to pump up the crown with "Another Navy First Down!" That bully pulpit cheering seems un-sportsmanlike to me, not in the spirit of the walk-on and salute to the opponent?

 

The Washington Nationals have named Jim Clarke, a former disc jockey in Detroit and New Orleans, as their public-address announcer.

 

While we don’t want anyone to be annoyed, we would take a PA announcer who enjoys his job and keeps things lively over someone who is monotone and boring any day of the week.
